Through my reading of History 1301, I have learned some perspectives I did not learn before. Even though I read different lessons, the lesson regarding how the enslaved people were treated was outstanding. For example, I understood that varying from how I believed that the enslaved people had their rights, I noticed that they did not have rights. For instance, when the enslaved Indians could not collect enough gold, they were given copper tokens when returning, which made their hands cut and bleed to death. Moreover, I have understood that even though the individuals who were engaging in the slave trade knew that they were violating human rights, they were not ready to end it. For instance, the enslaved war captives played a crucial role in the North American Southeast economy. The benefit they were enjoying made President Abraham Lincoln receive huge backlash for declaring emancipation, which was one reason for his death.
