Introduction
Data analysis is an active process that encompasses data inspection, modeling, cleaning and transformation whose main aim is to gather useful information, give suggestive conclusions and provide suggestions for implementation. The main target of a data analysis is to provide an accurate and high quality of data that will help the business or company to strategize, plan and to realize its goals. This essay aims at defining and differentiating databases, data warehouses and their relationship with business intelligence applications.
For a reputable data analysis, organizations and business enterprises should construct and compute a database and a functional unit of data warehouse. This is becomes operational by incorporating a systematic data mining process that is both effective and rational. A database is a basis for storing any data and is an organized data collection unit. In transactions, organizations receive data from various sources which will thereafter be collected into a single storage facility or place called a database. This data is always structured and categorized in terms of the type and model. These models of data include the rational model, the hierarchical model and network model. The common data model is the relational model. On the other hand, a data warehouse is a central form of database that is used to store data. Operationally, a data warehouse is applied for reporting and analyzing data that has been gathered from various sources. After analysis, the data can be consumed by the management of organizations and enterprises to create trends based on comparing the annual and quarterly reports.
The main purpose of a data warehouse is to provide an easy to access tool for data. Moreover, a data warehousing is a process of combining many different databases in an entire enterprise representing the different sources of data from each department of the enterprise or organization that is required for future analysis and referencing. Analysis of the data warehouses aids the enterprise to know and understand the history and trend of its transactions. This is gotten from the extraction of raw data so as to yield productive and useful meaning and information.
In data retrieval from a database, a database management system (DBMS) is used. This is a designed system that enables the interconnectivity of the data and immediate user or consumer, other applications and finally the database itself to allow the execution of analysis and capture of information from the data. Some of the DBMS include MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, SQLite, Microsoft Access and Oracle.
Based on their functionalities, a database is used for data storage while a data warehouse is usually used to facilitate both reporting and analysis of data. Therefore, to access and analyze data from a database, DBMS is used. It therefore implies that a data warehouse does not necessarily require the utilization of a DBMS. Consequently, a data warehouse may as well be used to analyze data by the use of data mining.
Data mining is a discovery process requiring a flexible approach comprising of a number of checkpoints that are used to asses and adjust the business ideas and processes. In trying to own a data mining tool, enterprises and organiz...
