A datacenter is a physical facility that houses critical computer systems and associated components including power backup, air conditioning, security applications, storage systems and telecommunications. Currently data centers are consuming electricity at surprising rate, about 5% of the total electrical use in a country. Tim reports that a single data center consumes up to 200 times the rate of office consumption, by the year 2020 its power usage will be four times the current rate (2011).
