We are long-term friends, so we catch up regularly and talk about our lives, families, and sports. On this particular evening, I happened to be late because I had been held up a bit at work. Nonetheless, I joined him and the evening was off to a nice start. Soon after, Dave started talking about his frustrations at work. I don't remember how but I drifted off and suddenly I was thinking about my own issues at work. "Are you really listening?" He asked. When I recollected myself, Dave was up ready to leave. "The problem with you is that you don't listen!" Guilty as charged, I said sorry and asked him to sit down. I talked about how I was tired and had a long day but the evening was already ruined.
