Evaluative Priming Task
I completed an evaluative priming task. In this automatic evaluation, emphasis was put on judging people, objects, or social groups as fast as possible. Bearing the fact that this was an automatic evaluation, one judged unintentionally, effortlessly, and quickly. The results showed a series of my judgments right from what I liked the most to what I disliked the most. From the results, I have a liking for nature. Also, I have a relatively high preference for Black individuals if compared to white people. Moreover, I showed limited admiration for poverty or disorderliness. The above results contradict my belief that I am an open-minded person without any biases beneath. Having highlighted my implicit reactions to various objects, people, and situations, the test has shown how I have some ingrained biases for which I have not been aware. In the context of mediation, this assessment is vital as any form of bias on the part of the mediator could be significant in swaying a dispute in favor of one party.
Strengths and Weaknesses as a Mediator
I possess various strengths and weaknesses as a mediator based on the presented results. Primary among my strengths is the willingness to reflect and confront my biases. The primary step in eliminating personal biases is recognizing their existence and accepting their possible impacts. With such information, one can approach a mediation session with an emphasis on self-awareness and growth.
