The Four Domains of EI The four core domains of emotional intelligence (EI) include self-awareness, social awareness, self-management, and relationship management (Goleman et al., 2013). Self-awareness is the ability to understand deeply one’s emotions, strengths and limitations, and values. A person who is self-aware practices thoughtfulness and self-reflection while one who is not self-aware often makes decisions that trigger inner turmoil (Goleman et al., 2013).
