According to the ACA Code of Ethics (2006), it is not ethical to exaggerate the symptoms or the diagnosis of a client if it is the only way to obtain reimbursement for a treatment service. Instead, the counselor or medical professional should continue providing care to the patient without worrying about payment or reimbursement. They have to understand the parameters of behavior to meet the changing needs of the client and stay in their limits while assisting them in a clinic or hospital. The core responsibility of a counselor should be to assist the client, diagnose and treat him on an immediate basis. In addition, the therapy should begin as soon as the client shows odd behavior since it is the only way to save his life.
