Course description and introduction
The course will provide you the student with the overview aspects of the theories, perspectives and the main research methods in the social psychology discipline. Since it is not possible to exhaust the in depths of the topics, the course will prepare the students for further studies in the related fields of their interest.
Course objectives
By the end of the course period the student be in a position to;
Explain the chronological development of social psychology.
Understand intrapersonal phenomenon, with respect the aspects of social cognitions, attitudes, and the concepts of self and that of persuasion.
Understand interpersonal phenomenon with respect to the aspects of dyanamics of groups, interpersonal attractions, social influences and relating with other people.
Analyze and critic the various social behavior patterns as they are presented by parents friends and the media.
Apply the theories and research findings in social psychology.
Course policies
Attendance: all the students are required to attend more than 70 % of the classes, as this will be factored in the final grade. Students should also note that more than 70% of the material that will be discussed in class will form majority of material in the final exams.
Participation: all the students will be required to participate, as most of the class work will be coupled with class discussions and individual presentations on various topics to enhance understanding and appreciation of the social discipline.
