This, ladies and gentlemen, is the pollution of our environment. Before I begin, I would like to note that views that concern pollution are varied. We all do not agree, for example, what constitutes pollution or the connection between pollution to health problems being witnessed like chest problems and cancer. I respect such views. The respect stems from the fact that we all have something to say. However wrong or right we each think we are, divergent views from our own need not be disrespected. I will endeavor to change your minds though with this speech. If I succeed in my mission, even if by a small bit, I will consider that success. So, without further ado, let me start. What is environmental pollution? Most of us have an idea what it is, and most of us would be right. According to Encyclopedia.com, environmental pollution is defined as “the discharge of material, in any physical state, that is dangerous to the environment or human health” (Encyclopedia.com, 2017). In short, environmental pollution is what we throw, discard, pour or release to our environment that ends up affecting our health negatively or makes the environment worse off than it was. Environment in this case refers to land, water and the air we breathe. Effect to our environment includes desertification, extreme and unreliable weather patterns, poisoned water for drinking and many others. Effects to our health presents itself in increase in people with chest problems like asthma, rise in cancer prevalence in an area, heart diseases and infections. For our young ones, pollution affects their brain and central nervous system (Yu, 2004).
