Morality could be defined as the principles concerning the distinction between good and bad in a society. Three theories of ethics attempt to examine the basis of morality. They all have the common idea that for any action to be considered good, it should be capable of being approved and adopted by other rational human beings, however, they differ upon certain other points, as explored in this paper.
The virtue theory suggests that a person’s reasons for doing good arise from intrinsic and personal sentiments that predispose him to act in in accordance with those sentiments. Thus, a virtue is a personal trait that contributes to one’s functioning well as a human being. It is usually learnt, and exhibited on a regular basis.
