Social problems are inevitable. According to the University of Minnesota (2015), society faces multiple challenges that affect its members. The significant social problem I would want to address for the United States (U.S.) citizens if I were a presidential candidate is racial and ethnic inequality. This problem resonates with me. Specifically, racial and ethnic inequality comes up easily in American society, whereby the minority groups such as African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanics, Latinos, and Native Americans experience strong discrimination and exclusion or segregation. The Blacks form the crucial history of discrimination and mistreatment that started in the colonial era, where the Whites forcefully ferried the Blacks from their motherlands to function as enslaved people in America. The genesis of slavery continued in America until after the Civil War when cases reduced significantly.
