Browse non-profit facility websitgs, read the provided publications and transcripts, and watch the interview and video recordings. Take notes during this information-gathering phase using the provided Template and Guidelines for Observational Notes. Information Collection: Learn about the types of jobs available at non-profit facilities by examining staff bios and job listings, focusing on the credentials, competencies, and skills required. Study the programs and services offered by non-profit facilities, noting how they align with the site's mission and goals. Understand the demographic groups served by these programs and the site's Theory of Change or Logic Model available on their website. Writing the Synthesis Essay: Page 1: Describe the facility’s mission, function, clientele served, programs offered, partners/sponsors, careers available, and skills/competencies expected of job applicants. Page 2: Discuss specific human learning and development concepts and issues incorporated into the programs by focusing on an initiative adopted by the nonprofit facility (e.g., education for youth and families, economic stability, health and wellness, or community safety and connections). Choose an initiative that aligns with your interests and discuss how it can be supported by 2-3 BIS HLD disciplines.
