Over the years, sexual assault and harassment among the United States military service in the garrison environment have been rising alarmingly. For instance, statistics show that the cases of rape or sexual assault more than 20000. Some reasons behind the increased issues include military culture, harsh climate, and poor leadership structure. Leadership challenges are becoming more prevalent in military posts as cases of sexual assault are dealt with within the chain of command. This process allows the victim, a commanding officer, to interfere at any given point. This paper analyzes how United States army leaders experience leadership difficulties with sexual assault and harassment compared to being deployed.
The chain of command leadership structures is one of the major reasons behind leaders experiencing challenges when dealing with sexual assault and harassment in a garrison environment. Whenever there is a case, the commander can decide to postpone investigations, lessen the sentence, and set aside convictions, without needing to go for trials or explain their decisions to the public (Autumn, 2023). As a result, these actions are popular since this leadership structure incentivizes commanders to abstain from pursuing sexual assaults in their departments. As a result, the leaders among these military services struggle to make the most effective and efficient decision.
