Louisville and Detroit Sustainability has become critical for cities not only in the United States (US) but also in the world. In recent years, the global population is rapidly urbanizing, this has created environmental problems. Cities are currently contributing a significant portion of greenhouse emissions, resource consumption, and waste generation, making them a key contributor to climate change and ecological degradation. As a result, the need to adopt sustainable practices and implement innovative solutions has become critical to ensure the well-being of the dwellers and the planet. Mike Dugga the Mayor of, the City of Detroit, and Greg Fische, the Mayor, of the City of Louisville have instituted measures to make their cities more sustainable. While these measures share some similarities, they also have significant differences. Detroit and Louisville acknowledge that community involvement is critical in actualizing the efforts toward sustainability. The cities appreciate that community members are important in actualizing sustainability measures. Detroit in particular developed its sustainability agenda with community input. The development of the agenda entailed the engagement of diverse community members, including those who have been underrepresented in planning processes (Detriot.gov, 2019). Detroit acknowledges that the city’s community and non-profit organizations have spearheaded sustainability initiatives. In particular, the city officials value the feedback of the Detroiters on the challenges they face and the suggestions on how to make the city more sustainable.
