While researchers may present the new species in a different environment to play a specific role, or in some cases the new species may find its way in a new environment, such animals may become lethal because they may possess a specific strain that is destructive to the livelihood in the new environment. The article talks about a new invasive species called the Lantern fly that is causing a lot of damage compared to the popular murder hornets. According to the article, the Lantern fly does not pause any threat to humans as the worst that it could do is to poke one as it lands on them. However, its real damage lies in its actions on plants. The insect can cause extensive damage on American crops, especially vineyards, by sipping on sap from the ornamental fruit trees and grape vines, which could cost the state at least $324 million annually and eliminate 2,800 jobs (Imbler, 2020). What makes these insects destructive is that they have a specific internal bacteria that lives in specialized organs within the insect and help it digest the plant sap.
