How anthropologists study modern media
Essay Instructions:
Consider a nursing career perspective.
In a 1-to-3-page reflective essay, consider how anthropologists study modern media, and consider how you, in your nursing career, see yourself using modern media professionally.
Think critically, as anthropologists do.
• First, describe in your essay how anthropologists study modern media.
• Then, apply those observations regarding ways anthropologists study modern media and describe ways nurses do or could use modern media professionally.
• Describe ways you, as a nurse, could use modern media professionally.
• What would be some potential benefits of the use of modern media to the modern nurse?
• What would be some potential drawbacks? How might such media use affect the nurse-and-patient relationship?
• Integrate the textbook reading in your reflection, using concepts, quotes, and/or paraphrases and citations, from both the “Doing Fieldwork” Chapter 3 by Nelson and the “Media Anthropology” Chapter 16 by Peake. Paraphrase or quote and cite from at least one scholarly, outside source to support your reflections, also.

Technology has constantly advanced the key sources of modern media, making it a pillar of today’s civilization. Anthropologists use media to describe and analyze the impact it has on cultures and culture bearers: to reveal how its gender, racializes, or sexualizes ideas of culture and vice versa. Anthropologists engage modern media at two levels: as a cultural artifact and as a communication tool. According to Brown et al. With cultural artifacts, anthropologists work to recognize patterns to gain insight into culture; nurses can equally analyze media techniques in the communication of health and its consequences on the understanding, trust, and behavior of patients.
Another significant element relevant to the emergence of modern media is the professional practice of nursing. For instance, social networks enable the sharing of health data, educate the public to refute fake news, and promote people’s healthcare campaigns. Some of these include Twitter, where specific groups of nurses can meet online, LinkedIn, research articles, and discussions around the world (Gamor et al., 2023). Through a blog, video, or podcast, nurses can also educate patients through simplified medical information so that they can be actively involved in their treatment process. One of them is telehealth, whose use has elevated in the recent past, and it i...
