Economic Violence and Women
There have been widespread cases of economic violence against women in the whole world. The World Development Report on Gender Equality and Development has highlighted the cases in much detail. Among the various forms of economic violence against women, the most common is men refusing to pay for child support. Many men do a lot to ensure that they do not pay for child support. These men abandon the state or even work just to avoid their earnings being reported. Some of these men even lower their living standards to elude paying support to the kids they fathered. In addition to men refusing to pay for child support for their kids, there are other forms of economic violence against women. They include men controlling the money owned by women and giving women little allowance to run the house. This is normally the case in many countries in the developing world. Additionally, some men end up holding credit cards and check books owned by their wives. They also compel these women to work outside the homestead. On the other hand, some husbands tend to keep all property titles only using their own names without including the names of their wives. This amounts to a very serious economic crime to these women.
