Role played by parties, money, and interest groups in the proper functioning of the United States Government? Is the American political system dysfunctional? Why or why not?
The United States is a federal government. The head of state and the judiciary share powers set aside for the national government whereas the central government shares power with the state governments. The president heads the executive. The legislature is divided into two i.e. the Senate and the House of Representatives. The judiciary interprets the constitution. It also has the duty of settling disputes between the other two arms of the government. However, there are only two political parties in America i.e. the Republican and the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party supports a platform of liberalism while the Republican advocates for conservatism.
Interest groups are organizations with members sharing universal concerns and influence the policies of government affecting those issues. The various lobby groups are; economic lobby groups which represents big companies. There are also the public lobby groups which don’t gain directly from what they do but get donations from people who support them. The others are the government interest groups which bring to the congress the local and state Government concerns. They assist the state and local governments in getting grants from the federal government and these funds replace those that were taken as taxes by the federal government. The religious lobby groups fights for the rights of he Christians and encourages morality. The civil rights interest groups represent the minority groups.
