Bangladesh is a southern Asia country that is characterized by many waterways. The means of navigation that is commonly used is the river through the bout. This is attributed to the fact that rivers in the country are navigable. It is geographically located to the border Indian state of West Bengal to the west and Assam to the north. Bangladesh is ranked as the eleventh in the market middle economic income. Its economic status is the developing market economy. The rank according to nominal term and purchasing power parity is 35th and 30th, respectively.
Bangladesh Background Information
Bangladesh has considered as the middle income since its GDP per capita income surpasses a given income. In 2017, their GDP per capita was $4,200 (Chowdhury et al., 2020). In 1980 Bangladesh was made an Islamic religion, but in 2010 the court ruled it out and was developed to a secular state. Mostly, Bangladesh has been considered flawed since they are associated with many natural calamities like drought, flooding, lack of resources, less export demand, and other historical factors. Also, it has no mineral apart from gas.
However, it is a safe country associated with very few criminal cases. Pickpocketing and snatching are a rear case, although it does occur sometimes. This guarantees a safe tourist attraction area for most tourist. The typical liked food includes the Paratha, Kachchi Biryani, Bhuna Khichuri, Patla Khichuri, Rice and many others. This testy food is sometimes a tourist attraction site. A foreigner comes in to enjoy the cultural food products in Bangladesh. Therefore, the sectors have a significant impact on the country's economic state since revenue foreigners go direct to development purposes.
Sustainable Development Goals Implementation and Review committee lead by the Principal coordinator (SDGs) have been used to get feedback from the VNRs. VNRs indicates that some SDGs have been achieved asset to be in 2020. The poverty state in Bangladesh is indicated to have reduced from 40 percent in 2005 to 20.5 percent in 2019. During the period, life expectancy rises from 65 to 73 years at birth. Gender parity has been achieved for both primary and secondary education levels, raising the literacy rate from 53.7 percent to 73.9 percent (Chowdhury et al., 2020). The MDG target of hunger in Bangladesh has been reduced from 66 percent in 1990 to 32.6 percent in 2014. Furthermore, the rate declined in 2017 to 22 percent.
The country's economic status has maintained its economy and has been rising gradually. The set rate for 2020 was to be at 5 percent, surpassing in 2019 by 5.85 percent. During the same period, most industries in the country have increased their GDP from 25.4 percent to 31.2 percent. The government's main aim is to supply electric power to all the states in the country.
The country, however, has been facing some challenges, as stated by the VNRs. The country has managed to sustain the food rate in the country by producing staple food. This is to ensure that all the citizen gets an adequate supply of the raw lifestyle. The main issue is that the country's impoverished population is very high and sometimes tends not to be manageable. The government has come up with strategies that do not leave any city life as it was initially. The principle of leaving no one out has ensured that the citizen's social, political stability and economic standard are prioritized. This has significantly impacted the growth rate since favorable conditions are set for development. Strengthening women's production is one of the strategies being highlighted to increase the production rate (Dey et al., 2017). Strengthening Women’s Ability for Production New Opportunity (SWAPNO) project aims to empower the country's inferior women to be involved in social work and national development.
For an increase in growth rate, the education system in Bangladesh is aimed at helping citizen in think critically n how quality education can be achieved in the cheapest possible way, how food production can be increased without affecting the environments, how rapid urban growth can be achieved in the possible suitable way. Therefore, a lot of financial support is needed to maintain the citizens' good health condition, the power supply system to be continuous, the social security state, and many others. Therefore, the government needs a partnership with private and business organizations to maintain all these standards.
Voluntary National Review (VNR) aims to evaluate the steps a nation has made in achieving a stated goal. The progress chronologically states, and the process evaluation to determine the steps taken and the ones that were useful. The steps taken are very vital in the development of a given nation. SGDs, and on the other hand, establishes the fact that development is directly linked with the environmental state of a given place to be developed. The environmental state comprises the social, political, and economic state of given people. The development aspect can’t be achieved if the aspects of the involved agents are not favorable (Dey et al., 2017). The VNR report for the education development in Bangladesh is as state below.
In this report, the environmental fractures that affect developments are many. The term environment has been used to simplify the surrounding circumstances that surround human beings. This circumstance ranges from the social-economic state of people plus their political state. The social, economic factors are like education and health. Based on this report, the environmental factor is education as a factor that determines Bangladesh's development. However, other factors like health, political stability, and cultural beliefs also affect a country's development.
Development Goal for Equal Education
Background information
Development is achieved through the focus of many goals, ensuring equality among the citizens and many others. In this report, the focus is on ensuring equality in the education system to promote a lifelong education system. the goals not only focus on the delivery of content for the learners but its dynamically set to focus on how the education system will be favorable to every student and how no student will be left behind due to social or economic difficulties. The quality of early childhood education is set to be experienced by young boys and girls in the nation. The secondary and tertiary students are set to have a quality education comfortable accessing the resources from all over the country. Quality jobs, entrepreneurship, employments will require highly skilled individuals. Achieving this 2030 plan will also require highly skilled teachers to impact the student’s life positively. The qualified teacher can only be got through an increase in the scholarships for higher education.
Investment in education is the greatest investment one can ever make. Since independence, Bangladesh has mainly emphasized education as a pillar to much rapid development. It has emphasized education to improve economic status and that no one should be left behind. General education, Madrasa Education, and Technical and Vocation Education are the major education streams in Bangladesh (Walid, & Luetz, 2018). General and Madrasa education is divided into the secondary, primary, and tertiary levels. The secondary is further divided into a low level, grade 6-10, while the higher education is from grade 11-12. The strategy is aimed to achieve the legal age of 20 years to join higher education. Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) simplifies the government's commitment to invest in higher education for its citizens. According to Walid, & Luetz, (2018), HEQEP was developed to improve citizens' literate standards by encouraging further teaching and research. This is to enable learners to come up with significant innovations that are aimed to solve national problems.
Progress against Target
As far as girl and boy child education is concerned, the goals and dreams of Bangladesh are to ensure that by 2030 all the students can access quality education in both the primary, secondary and tertiary levels. The government's main aim is to measure the percentage of students who will have managed to secure knowledge in mathematics. Learning Assessment of Secondary Institution (LASI) was the main standard that was used to evaluate education. LASI report shows the following information from the respective education levels. That 54 percent of students at lower secondary level shows a succession in terms of education. The percentage distribution in gender is 55 percent are boys, while 54 percent are girls. Nineteen percent of the students showed professionalism in English, while 57 percent of the student shows success in mathematics. At the National Assessment of Secondary Student (NASS), the education outcome evaluation was done, and the given data was represented. Students' competition in primary education is quite impressive since it is about 82.6 percent. The competition levels in the secondary level vary depending on the given level. The lower level competition is at 64.7 percent, while that of the upper level is at 29.4 percent.
