I choose the first Scenario; the Southeast Asian custom of spoon-feeding youngsters as a means of instilling interdependence is the cultural socialization belief and practice at odds. Rose, the preschool teacher, has encouraged her kids to carry out daily duties independently, including feeding themselves, to foster autonomy and self-confidence. The belief that Western methods of promoting independence are always superior to those of other cultures constitutes a potential unconscious bias.
Cultural competence is the ethical principle that, in this case, can guide conflict resolution decisions. Cultural competence describes the ability to understand, respect, and interact with people from diverse backgrounds. It entails appreciating diversity, including different cultural beliefs and practices, and recognizing it.
