Introduction
Lately, an increased number of countries are getting smarter, more resourceful, and more technologically advanced. As the human need for a better, smarter, and more efficient living space grows, the Government is increasing its projects and operations on building a smarter living space. Some Governments also create such spaces (Smart Cities) to conduct experiments, develop new products, and conduct many ecologically friendly projects in such spaces. The best example of a smart city described above – Cinderella City, a living lab in Netherlands, is designed to do similar things. This paper will describe the “Cinderella City” in detail. The paper will provide the reader with a background of the city, theory behind the city, the proposed initiatives, and a conclusion at the end.
Background of the City
Cinderella is a unique innovation for the people around the world to make use of resources a recycle chance and thus making projects for the long term. In the world of wastage and recycling, one thing people choose is not to waste more and recycle more. Many plants have been transmitted to make a new product so Cinderella is a company that helps in transforming the waste and urine into fertilizer. The plant is situated at one of Amsterdam Living Lab (MALL) and comprises of a restored steel trailer - containing a research facility (Cinderella, n.d.). It is a fully circular process that helps in securing the resources into useful nutrients that helps in the fertilizer. Nutrients from the wastewater are to be channelized and then whatever the essential sections are to be generated are to be fixed in a definite manner. The plant which is to be created consists of a container containing a laboratory and two urine-diverting containers. The process is extremely easy as the fertilizer which is created is free from the bad odour and the water which is mixed can be used in the greenhouse and vegetable garden as it helps in implementing the nutrients recovering techniques. A model is to be created that helps in processing the matter into a deeper form a system is to generate helps in recovering all the aspects of the process. Firstly, the production of minerals takes place and according to the analyses, intense use of fertilizer is increasing day by day because of which a circular use of nitrogen takes place and helps in the dependency on fossil fuels so to avoid that this matter is to be generated and then helps in converting the process in an easy form. The need to focus on the accessibility of this project that the project should be successfully accomplished and the focus was to increase the Powertech intelligent system that helps in generating new techniques and policies to make the Cinderella project to be run successfully as richer based learning techniques should be applied and knowledge based on the sustainable change can be done in order to make the project effective and more unique in order to make it different from the competitive world and want to make it more adaptable and have the capacity to fight against the disorders of the uncertainties. To see the benefit and security of the people due to COVID-19 this project is making new techniques to beat the competitors and to make the project more feasible as well. Separating the urine in the sewage system is an effective way and two contents to be added in this process related to the nitrogen and phosphorous that helps in making this process end in a valuable manner. The two nutrients that are nitrogen and phosphorous helps in recovering the nutrients from the urine thus helping in making a good fertilizer that helps in avoiding waste and making an innovative cycle in an effective manner thus creating an innovation (AMS, n.d.).
For now, everything is completed in this section. We might add more information for the final assignment, since the total word limit for the Final Paper is 6000 words, we might try to find more relevant details, however, this is everything we have accomplished in this section.
Theory Behind the Smart Cities
With the advent of technological devices such as mobile phones, computers, surveillance systems, etc. the world demands increasingly sustainable living spaces. The idea of a smart city is based on making a living space that is greener, more resourceful, and safer that attracts people from many diverse backgrounds that want to be part of a living space such as this. Globally, there is a rising concentration of people in a small number of big cities. Large, dense cities may be extremely productive, inventive, and environmentally friendly per population, making them attractive for our future. The massive influx of new people, on the other hand, poses enormous problems for their administrations. Along with the favorable characteristics of dense, diversified cities, there are also bad aspects such as informal development, traffic congestion, waste management, access to resources, and crime. The need for services is urgent, but the tax resources required to pay them are delayed. At the same time, globalization has linked cities on opposite sides of the globe in hitherto unseen kinds of rivalry - for wealth, for resources, and for the Creative Class (Harrison & Donnelly, 2011). On a similar fashion, "smart city" is a futuristic strategy to overcoming challenges caused by ever-increasing population and rapid urbanization, which will benefit both governments and the public. Modern cities lack essential features such as quality of life and socioeconomic growth, which smart cities may provide. The goal of smart cities is to make cities more efficient, sustainable, and livable. In other words, a smart city is one that can monitor and integrate the functionality of all critical infrastructure such as roads, tunnels, airways, waterways, railways, communication power supply, and so on, as well as control maintenance activities and assist in resource optimization while keeping security in mind (Joshi et al., 2016).
However, there are other kinds of smart cities as well, where big companies, researchers, Government, etc. Conduct experiments, test modern technology, develop new products, and even construct a developed notion of a new products to conduct presentation to acquire funds and investments from investors or Government. Such places are called living labs. An example of a living lab would be Cinderella City in Netherlands. Cinderella City has many operations and projects that are being ran. Some examples of those projects are as follows:
From urine to plant 'food': A demonstration plant that converts pee into nutrient-rich fertilizer converts urine into plant nourishment. The facility is located at Marineterrein Amsterdam Living Lab (MALL) and is made from a rebuilt shipping container that houses a laboratory and two urine-diverting toilets, as well as an adjacent greenhouse that also functions as a meeting area (CINDERELLA - Living Lab, n.d.).
The demonstration plant consists of a refurbished shipping container - containing a laboratory and two urine-diverting toilets (Cinderella – A living Lab, n.d.).
Toilets that 'save' urine from the sewage system
So, what makes urine such a useful organic waste stream? Because of its high nitrogen and phosphorus content, it is an excellent fertilizer and compost accelerator. However, as you might expect, it must be treated first to eliminate the odor and impurities. Our ground-breaking CINDERELLA initiative recovers all available nutrients from urine.
To accomplish this, EAWAG, EOOS, and LAUFEN designed a new form of toilet that appears just like a regular toilet. The only difference is that these toilets feature a curved interior part that collects liquid on and around the bowl. These toilets allow this waste stream to be re-purposed by collecting urine before it enters the sewage system.
Separating urine before it enters sewage systems is an efficient recovery strategy since urine accounts for around 1.5 percent of the volume of sewage but includes 55 percent of its Phosphorus content and 80 percent of its Nitrogen content (the two main nutrients needed for a fertilizer).
The urine-to-fertilizer technique used by CINDERELLA is primarily based on the "VUNA" process developed by EAWAG scientists. The resultant fertilizer, "Aurin," is sold by EAWAG's subsidiary "VUNA." (CINDERELLA - Living Lab, n.d.).
The two urine-diverting toilets at the CINDERELLA lab of the model "save!", developed by EAWAG, EOOS and LAUFEN, 'save' urine from going down the drain into the sewage system (Cinderella – a living lab, n.d.).

Examples of Other Smart Cities
More people are surging into urban areas all over the world. The increasing population strains infrastructure and services. Currently, global cities account for more than half of the world’s population. The high population raises a question on how residents will navigate through the cities and how the government will offer energy, water, sanitation and other basic requirements. Through leveraging on technology based on the Internet of Things (IoT) cities have established more efficient ways of operating. More cities are working towards becoming smart. They are taking advantage of innovative technologies to actualize it. The following cities have made an initiative towards being smart. Cinderella City will borrow some of the concepts and integrate them accordingly.
Singapore
Singapore’s Smart Nation Program launched in 2014 entailed installing sensors around the city. The sensors collect data about the movement of the people around the city. The data is transmitted to a central facility owned by the government. The government analyzes traffic volume, pedestrian activity, and other important activities. The data is crucial in creating a 3D model of the city, which facilitates collaborative development.
Cinderella City will borrow a lot from the success of Singapore’s smart city. The technology has successfully ensured that Singapore has the required data needed to make critical decisions.
