As you build upon your knowledge of crisis intervention and prevention, you will begin to recognize the extent to which communities can prepare for disaster-related events. You will also gain greater insight into the planning efforts involved in such events, obtain a broader view of diverse crisis situations, and acknowledge the unique challenges found within various community settings.
To explore the nuances of disaster preparedness, in this assignment you will examine crisis-related current events and peer-reviewed research that cover issues associated with military (and first responder) settings, schools, workplaces, and the natural environment.
First, read Chapters 11–13 in your text, examine the Climate Crisis, Mental Health, and Social Policy learning unit, and review the websites found in Module 4. In your paper, briefly summarize and explain some of the main topics covered in these resources (i.e., crisis issues related to the military/first responders, schools, workplaces, the natural environment/the climate crisis).
As you examine each of the topics addressed in Module 4, determine which of these crisis intervention issues is something that you would like to explore further. For example, you may want to find out more about emergency preparedness in schools about school shootings, or you might want to research mental health and the climate crisis in greater detail. After you select your crisis intervention topic, seek out a credible news article on a current event related to your topic. Then, summarize the event's detail and discuss the response efforts involved in the crisis situation.
Next, find one peer-reviewed journal article on your topic. Describe the findings in the article and explain how the journal article relates to your topic and the current event you selected.
Your paper should include three or more double-spaced pages of content. Students will receive feedback in the comments section in Canvas. The feedback will be based on the grading rubric for this assignment.

Climate Crisis and Mental Health
Climate change is now considered an existential threat since it has brought a gradual increase in global temperature, natural disasters, and pollution of the environment (Jackson-Cherry & Erford, 2018).
