Approach to Psychopathology
Psychopathology is a term used to describe the analysis of behavioral manifestation and experiences that are indicators of psychological impairment. The article entitled “Psychopathology through the Eyes of Faith” by Butman and Yarhouse talks about different approaches to Psychopathology.
1:1
Their study of Psychopathology is referred to the study of the calamities of the soul. Psychopathology is approached by letting students learn how to assess, prevent, and treat concerns that gravely affect a person (Butman and Yarhouse, p. 211-219).
The first interesting element in their approach is seeing the emotional struggles of a person and how it impacts other humans. Emotion is the way of evolution to give meaning to the lives of people (Christianson, 1992). Depression is one of the most common emotional struggles that affect a person. Depression causes a person to have a depressed mood, lost in interest, guilty feeling, or low self-esteem (Mental Health Foundation, 2016). Another interesting factor is that they teach students how to handle a person with concerns because they can be affected. A lot of things can happen in a person’s life that could lead to a lot of worry and anxiety. This only shows that good changes also cause stress just like bad ones (Familyodoctor.org, 2016).
