The term Gestalt refers to principles of perception that attempt to describe how the eye organizes visual elements as a whole or in groups.
Similarity
This principle refers to objects that look similar to each other. The perception in this case makes people visualize objects as a group or in pattern form. Therefore, if similarity occurs within objects, certain objects could appear to be dissimilar; hence, the dissimilarity is referred to an anomaly.
Figure/Ground
In this principle, the human eye visualizes objects from its surrounding. Notably, elements such as shapes, trees or portraits are naturally perceived by the eye as figures or objects. On the other hand, the eye perceives the surrounding area as the ground or background. However, the figure and ground can be balanced to give the eye a better perception of image clarity.
