Georgia has a Fair Employment Practices Commission that safeguards people from discrimination in employment and housing (GCEO, n.d.). Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity enforces both the Georgia Fair Housing Law and the Georgia Fair Employment Practices Act of 1978. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) also has an office in Atlanta that oversees the operations of the agency in the State of Georgia as well as some counties of South Carolina (EOCC, n.d.). While I haven’t heard much about the Georgia Commission on Equal Opportunity, I previously read about a case where a Bako, a pathology lab paid $50,000 in a settlement following a discrimination lawsuit. The agencies have not been quite effective because the state is ranked third in the country in workplace discrimination rates CITATION LaS24 \l 1033 (Hudson, 2024).
