Health Policy Paper
Essay Instructions:
For this assignment you should choose a local, state, or federal policy and outline the following in a 1.5-2 page policy briefing:
Identify and summarize the problem or issue this policy is focused on
Who are the stakeholders (i.e., what community is affected by this policy?)
Offer your analysis on the effectiveness of the policy -- will this policy affect or address the problems it is meant to address?
For support identifying a policy, you should review recent news, or utilize the list of policy focused organizations to determine what policies they are promoting. There are some very hot topic issues right now (paid family medical leave, medicaid, access to abortion, etc) but any health focused policy is an option.
This paper should be APA formatted. Please refer to the rubric for more detailed grading information.

Problem and Policy Overview
Most developed and developing societies are experiencing a rapid growth in population. However, even while there might be a bet positive growth, there is still a challenge when it comes to maternal health. Women still continue experiencing a lot of challenges when it comes to both prenatal and antenatal healthcare. The United States has the highest maternal mortality rate among developed nations, with significant disparities along racial and socioeconomic lines. Similarly, infant mortality rates in the US are higher than in many other high-income countries. These troubling trends are partly due to barriers to accessing quality prenatal, delivery, and postpartum care, especially for underserved populations (The White House, 2022). There seems to be an unequal access to resources that might help to improve maternal healthcare. To address these critical public health issues, policymakers have proposed expanding Medicaid coverage for maternal and infant health services.
Stakeholders
The primary stakeholders affected by this policy are pregnant mothers, new mothers, and their infants, particularly those from low-income backgrounds and communities of color. These populations face disproportionate risks of pregnancy-related complications, adverse birth outcomes, and lack of access to comprehensive care.
