Goliath’s Height and the Weight of his Bronze Coat
In the book of 1 Samuel, chapter 17, the contest between David and Goliath is described. In verse four, Goliath's physical appearance is described as having ‘a height of six cubits and a span.’ In verse five, his bronze coat weighed five thousand shekels (Bible Study Tools, 2022). Goliath despised the Israelites and refuted God. In verses nine and ten, he expresses his assumption that he was stronger than any man from the Israelites’ army, which terrified the Israelites (Bible Study Tools, 2022). In verse twenty-eight, Eliab, one of David’s elder brothers, despised him for asking questions and was angry since he thought he had only come to the battleground to watch. In verse thirty-two, David trusted God and had immense faith as he told Saul that he would dare to fight Goliath (Bible Study Tools, 2022).
