1 Ethical Systems
Two primary distinguishing ethical tenets or rules observed by the Shinto religion are good is the default condition and there are no moral absolutes. Shinto ethical tenets start from the fundamental concept that people are inherently good and that evil is the result of evil spirits. They also do not have moral absolutes: nobody is perfect and there is no good or bad. Shinto judges the goodness or evilness of an action or thought based on the context in which it occurs.

Shinto has no founder but it originated in the late 6th century in Japan to distinguish it from other religions like Confucianism and Buddhism that had been introduced from China. It is Japan’s native belief system thanks to notable scholars like Atsutane, Mabuchi, and Norinaga.
