Ethical and Legal Issues The ethical issues that were breached include boundaries of competence, the psychologist forming a relationship with the client, informed consent, and record keeping. Breach of boundaries of competence is evident when the registered behavior technician (RBT) addresses a case in which she needs to be better versed. In the case scenario, Yvette shared with her RBT colleagues at the workplace that she lacked depth in handling the child’s problematic eating behaviors because she had no experience handling such cases. The case study highlights a breach of ethical guidelines on the psychologist forming another relationship apart from the professional role. There is a casual relationship between the BCBA and the client’s family. The BCBA enters the client’s home, embraces his siblings and parents, and heads straight to the kitchen to help the family with house chores. Although the client lacks the capacity for informed consent, the parents ought to have signed an agreement to have their son attended to by the BCBA. The parents did not get any paperwork that needed consent on the possible intervention in the treatment plan.
