Ethics Codes
For this week’s assignment, you are playing the role of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) who has been working in the field for several years. Recently, you completed work on an interesting case, and you plan on presenting your work at a conference. Refer to Section 5 of the Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts to explain your responsibility in public statements and from Section 6 to explain how you will adhere to ethical guidelines when completing and presenting your research. You will also discuss multiculturalism as it pertains to this case.
Scenario
Lois is a preschooler of Asian descent. You have been working with Lois’ instructional team on a variety of age-appropriate skills acquisition programs including one that is for establishing and maintaining eye contact. Before implementing this program, you discussed it with Lois’ parents to ensure you fully understood and respected their cultural views on eye contact, particularly eye contact between children and adults. With their approval, you successfully implemented a shaping procedure to teach Lois to make brief eye contact with an adult for a duration of 3s when her name is called. Following the initial intervention, you then successfully implemented generalization and maintenance programs to generalize Lois’ new skill across instructors and locations.
Now that you have intervened successfully taught this behavior in a culturally responsive way, you would like to present your experiences at Purdue Global’s next ABA conference. Lois’ family is willing to give you permission to present your findings. You must consider your ethical responsibility in making public statements and presenting your research.

Slide 2: The Ethics Code
I would like to recognize all the experts at this conference and thank you for your presence today. I am AA BB, a BCBA with over six years of experience in behavior analysis. I recently concluded an informative case involving a preschooler, which forms a fundamental part of today’s presentation. This program focuses on imparting age-appropriate skills with a focus on eye contact. The primary participant was Lois, an Asian preschooler receiving instructions from a team of experts. I played a critical role in seeking consent from her parents and ensuring that the 3-second eye contact shaping procedure whenever someone calls her remained culturally appropriate. Sharing the findings in this study will require consideration of specific ethical codes in sections 5 and 6 (Behavior Analyst Certification Board, 2020). Let us explore the content and guidelines when publishing this case.
Slides 3: Section 5
Code 5.01 guides information sharing in this research by emphasizing upholding clients’ rights. According to the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (2020), BCBAs should prioritize their clients’ privacy through fundamental tactics that protect their personal identifying data when disseminating study findings. Bailey and Burch (2022) support this observation by emphasizing that such a process demonstrates compliance with HIPAA regulations. As a result, one should not disclose sensitive details, including the client’s photograph, name, address, and other identifying information. I will adhere to this code by securing informed consent from the parent and de-identifying the reported information by removing geographical and other identifiers. Such a process will protect the client’s privacy rights.
Slides 4: Section 5
The willingness of Lois’ family to allow sharing of the findings highlights the need to consider code 5.11 when sharing the data digitally through PowerPoints and other formats during this conference. A BCBA should prioritize confidentiality despite acquiring informed consent (Behavior Analyst Certification Board, 2020). The author also emphasizes limiting the content use to the allowed audiences and purposes and integrating a disclaimer for informed consent availability while sharing any media. Bailey and Burch (2022) indicate that this code covers all treatment and assessment-related documentation and images. Thus, I will refrain from sharing the research with any unauthorized parties or misusing it for personal interests beyond those disclosed.
Slides 5: Section 6
Ethical code 6.01 applies to the case to ensure compliance with existing research regulations and laws (Behavior Analyst Certification Board, 2020). Bailey and Burch (2022) recommend adhering to the Human Rights Committee (HRC) to safeguard the client’s rights from inception to completion and finding presentation. Thus, the code will assist in ensuring respect for cultural practices while applying the eye contact intervention and sharing information in ways that do not ...
