Ethics Codes Assignment Name: Affiliation: Course: Instructor: Date: Ethics Codes Assignment My name is [Insert Your Name], and I am a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) conducting behavior analyses for various individuals in society. Since offering services to clients from different cultures, I have provided evidence-based interventions while respecting their individual and cultural differences. Recently, I handled Lois's case, a preschooler of Asian descent. My main task was to help her maintain appropriate eye contact. This is a critical case since it requires me to collaborate with her and her family to create an intervention that will adhere to their cultural norms. I will refer to the Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts Sections 5 and 6. I will also use Codes 1.07 and 1.08 to explain my responsibility for cultural nondiscrimination and responsiveness. Section 5, which involves public statements, has different codes that match this scenario. For example, 5.01 explains that when behavior analysts are working, they should employ the proper steps to prioritize the client's rights when making public statements, such as ensuring that all the statements are accurate and truthful (BACB, 2020). On the other hand, 5.02 on confidentiality in public statements explains that behavioral analysts are mandated to protect the client's confidentiality. Additionally, 5.05 addresses intellectual property laws, which advocate for behavioral analysts to obtain permission before using trademarked or copyrighted materials. Moreover, 5.06 explains that behavior analysts should not advertise nonbehavioral services as behavioral ones. Section 5.08, on the other hand, prohibits using testimonials from former clients for advertising. These sections apply to the preparation of Lois's case. For example, I must adhere to accuracy and transparency when presenting the intervention and outcomes to ensure they match evidence-based practices while avoiding overgeneralizations. On the other hand, I am supposed to present an original presentation concerning intellectual property. If I draw any information from any external sources, I will properly cite it. Moreover, despite Lois' parents allowing me to present, I would avoid using personal statements or endorsements that people could interpret as testimonials. One measure I could use to adhere to section 5 is obtaining written informed consent from Lois’ parents. This written consent will show what they expect me to share and the confidentiality I should maintain. Moreover, before the conference, I must have a peer review of my presentation by colleagues. This review will analyze whether my presentation adheres to ethical and professional standards. I will also have confidentiality protections to remove any identifying information about Lois and her family ...
