Essay Instructions:
Complete the readings and the interactive learning activity before you attempt the discussion question. Consider your own reflexive or respondent behaviors that occur as a result of a previous stimulus-stimulus pairing in your environment. Using the respondent conditioning "equation" to guide your organization, identify the unconditioned stimulus and the unconditioned response. Next, identify the neutral stimulus, and discuss the event(s) that contributed to the formation of the conditioned stimulus eliciting the conditioned response. How does this respondent behavior impact you in your environment? If this behavior impacts you in a negative way, describe the process you could use to extinguish the stimulus-stimulus pairing that elicits your conditioned response. If this behavior impacts you in a positive way, describe the process you could use to elicit the same response under the control of other stimuli.

Title Your Name Subject and Section Professor’s Name Date The classical conditioning mechanism influences my behavior in such a way that I associate dogs with fear. At first, meeting a dog functions as the unconditioned stimulus (US), which immediately elicits the fear response—the unconditioned response (UR). On the other hand, a bell, which initially is a neutral sound, does not produce any powerful reaction as well. Nonetheless, when I am exposed to a bell sound repeatedly following the exposure to a dog, the previously neutral stimulus bell sound will eventually get associated with fear. The bell sound converts into a conditioned stimulus (CS) which is able to produce a conditioned response (CR) that is similar to the fear or anxiety caused by the dog only (Akpan, 2020). This conditioning has an immense effect on me and results in discomfort or avoidance in situations even if there are no dogs accompanying the bell that rings. As a res...
