Personality disorders are common in society; they include Borderline personality disorder (BPD). BPD is characterized by a pattern of instability in interpersonal relationships, self-image, emotions, and impulsivity. People with BPD struggle to regulate their emotions and frequently experience mood swings, impulsive behaviors, and suicidal ideas. They often have a fragile sense of self and can lack a sense of identity (Kulacaoglu & Kose, 2018). Those with BPD also tend to have intense but unstable personal relationships, fluctuating between idealization and devaluation of others. BPD is different from other personality disorders due to its pervasive pattern of instability in relationships, self-image, emotions, and behavior, along with chronic feelings of emptiness. The impulsivity of BPD is also more severe than many other disorders. While many mental illnesses may include some of these symptoms, BPD manifests in a greater and more persistent pattern across many aspects of life.
