The three theft-related property crimes in the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program include burglary offenses, motor vehicle theft, and larceny-theft. Within this context, the theft-type offense object is the property or taking of money, but there is no threat of force or force against the victims. The UCR Program defines burglary as the illegal entry of a property to commit theft or felony. In order to classify a crime as a burglary, the employment of force to obtain access need not have happened. An example of a burglary crime is a person breaking, cutting the padlock on the rear entrance of your structure, and steals your computer. The UCR’s definition of “structure” includes a barn, apartment, house trailer, or houseboat when utilized as a permanent office, dwelling, railroad car, vessel, or stable (Federal Bureau of Investigations, 2004).
