The Stereotypes of Older People The stereotyping of older people is common throughout different parts of the world majorly due to the thinking that their mental and physical capacity deteriorates as they age. Such myths thus alienate the elderly since they are considered a burden to the society (Weiss, 2022). These stereotypes are the most common that I have experienced that push most families into admitting their elderly into nursing homes. As a result, this leads to cases of depression where such individuals feel unwanted, ultimately leading to negative health outcomes. Overcoming such stereotypes requires people to unlearn different perceptions that have been inbuilt over time.
