Psychoanalysis is a doctrine that discovered the role of the unconscious in mental activity and a healing method proposed by Freud and improved by his followers. This assignment aims to discuss the major concepts proposed by Freud and how these concepts relate to the development of psychological thought processes.

The psychoanalytic school greatly impacted the development of anthropocultural thought (Kaluzeviciute, 2020). This direction brought together physicians, psychologists, biologists, and ethnologists, who explained the phenomenon of culture based on the psychobiological nature of man.
Sigmund Freud, an Austrian neurologist, psychiatrist, and psychologist, the founder of psychoanalysis, believed that philosophy results from a compromise between people's spontaneous drives and the demands of reality (Roazen, 2018). It acts as a kind of mechanism of social suppression of the free inner world of individuals, as a conscious refusal of people to satisfy their natural passions.
According to Freud, consciousness encompasses all the knowledge and skills accumulated by people that allow them to master the forces of nature to meet their needs. It also includes institutions for streamlining human relationships and, especially, for sharing the benefits obtained. Freud explored the so-called subconscious: the irrational and "dark" part of the human psyche. Among the elemental drives, the main and uniting of all people, he singled out the instinct of procreation, sexual instinct (the so-called libido), and later included here the desire for death (Thanatos) (Roazen, 2018). The energy of affective drives, finding no way out, is transformed, switched to the goals of social activity and cultural creativity, the so-called sublimation.
Due to the exclusive attention that his followers pay to the subconscious biological aspects of the author's psyche, Freud's method is often called the psychoanalytic method. For Freud and his supporters, the human psyche is based on sexual and homicidal drives; both are indecomposable and represent the initial factors of life - organizing and destructive (Kaluzeviciute, 2020).
