The behavior of focus that I would like to weaken in my roommate is procrastination. The objective measurement of procrastination would be a count of the number of activities or tasks delayed as well as the amount of time that one takes from the point at which the assignment is given to its completion. The clear definition of procrastination as a behavior is the delay in the completion of a given activity or a task. Thus, the operational definition of procrastination is the practice of delaying a given activity or an assignment until a later time, which leaves one with insufficient time to finish the work.
The topography of procrastination in a student includes avoiding starting a given task, taking up non-essential tasks, engaging in self-doubt, and starting on non-essential tasks. Examples of avoiding starting a given task are when a student starts writing a research paper a few minutes before the deadline or emails to see if the professor can give a deadline extension without a valid reason. A non-example of topography is the student breaking down the components of the research paper and spreading the completion of the components throughout the assigned time. An example of topography, taking up non-essential tasks is a student spending time on their phone instead of working on an assignment due the next day.
