Due to unique societal values, economic factors, and traditions, aging is approached differently among cultures. Nigeria and the Netherlands have similarities and differences in how they manage older adults' care, respect, and roles. The first similarity is that both countries emphasize ensuring that older adults are cared for and respected. BDO Global (2024) reports that the Netherlands has a very comprehensive long-term care system for older adults, and it currently spends 2.9% of its GDP on long-term care provision. Nigeria has a cultural instinct to care for older people, rooted in their African collectivist philosophy (Ezulike et al., 2024).
