Psychological Maladaptation means the development of personality characteristics that are not only at variance with society's expectations but are also characterized by impaired functioning and distress. Other concepts include personality disorders, which are easily described as a constellation of personality traits and behavioral characteristics that are significantly different from the population norms and which are not only present in all aspects of the affected person’s life but are also rigid and have their onset in the late teenage years or adulthood and cause the person to be distressed or impaired.
