I am a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst with several years of experience working with clients from diverse cultural backgrounds. I recently worked with Lois, a student of Asian descent, to make her school and social life more comfortable. The target of my sessions with Lois was age-appropriate skills acquisition in a culturally responsive way. I got consent from her parents and the school before commencing this intervention plan. After fully understanding and respecting Asian cultural views on eye contact, I decided on the best approach to benefit Lois. I have successfully implemented a mandatory 3-second eye contact with adults that Lois will meet at home, school, and community. Lois's family has also permitted me to use the data and experiences from interacting with their child professionally. The behavioral analysis experiences in this scenario will be presented at the next Purdue Global ABA conference. The presentation will adhere to ethical responsibilities and base its foundation on relevant research.
The case involved teaching Lois to maintain at least 3s of eye contact with adults. This technique will help her to have a better school life and enhance her social interactions.
