I have chosen a Bachelor in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). According to Contreras et al. (2021), applied behavior analysis incorporates the broad purpose of working to augment the human condition. Since ABA encompasses practice and research, obtaining a bachelor’s degree is the first step towards becoming an ABA therapist. Whereas no specific major is required for this field, degrees in psychology, social work, and education can be increasingly helpful. I chose a degree in ABA because it is one of the many evidence-based helping professions (e.g., school psychology, clinical psychology, and social work). As an ABA therapist, I will be guided mainly by a set of rules or, instead, the professional code of ethics. At the very fundamental level, I will implement professional ethics by protecting clients and collaborating with other practitioners to make decisions that are deemed appropriate in alleviating suffering and improving the human condition.
