Diagnosis
Jessenia is suffering from bipolar disorder due to moods swings, abnormally upbeat (feeling great once and then shifting to crying spells) and suicidal thoughts.
Causal factors
Major causal factors in Jessenia’s case are; limited mobility in certain moments, which is caused by fatigue or decreased energy, loss of interest in food due to depression, and potential stress that result from taking care of her three children.
Treatment
* Medication – Jessenia will start using medication to balance her moods. The recommended mood stabilizers for her include lithium (Lithobid), divalproex sodium (Depakote), and lamotrigine (Lamictal).
* Cognitive-behavioral therapy - this type of talk therapy assist patients recognize cognitive patterns that are keeping them stuck. In this case, the aim will be to identify why Jessenia is stuck with suicidal thoughts and shift in moods.
