Different figures such as John B. Watson and B.F. Skinner has played a role in developing ABA. One of the major concepts in ABA is radical behaviorism, which explains that external behavior influences human behavior. The environment has, therefore, been used to understand the individual's public and private events. ABA has also played an important role in developing technology that helps to manipulate people's behaviors. Question One Behavior analysis has been a field of concern since it is a science that studies human and non-human organisms’ behavior. The common branches of behavior analysis are experimental analysis of behavior (EAB), behaviorism, and applied behavior analysis (ABA). ABA is a theory of learning that relates to behaviors attained through conditioning, which happens after interaction with the environment (Guercio, 2020). Behaviorism normally includes concepts such as empiricism, the knowledge-seeking behavioral sciences branch. Behaviorism has been mainly created to examine the relationship between living organisms and the environment in which they live. Behaviorism offers a theoretical underpinning of EAB and ABA but does not offer practical applications. On the other hand, EAB is the scientific foundation for behavior analysis since it involves basic research behavior. The goal of EAB is usually to discover the fundamental principles and behavior processes. It normally employs rigorous experiments investigating varying behavior variables through reinforcement, shaping, and other basic behavior process schedules. EAB has been applied to theoretical and empirical knowledge regarding behavior analysis. It has also been practically applied in ABA. The goal of EAB is usually to boost the quality of the client's life. On the other hand, ABA is referred to as research-based behavior therapy regarding individuals with autism and other developmental disorders. ABA normally aims to boost the client’s significant behaviors. ABA has derived principles and techniques from EAB to transform individuals' behavior. The ABA has mainly emphasized evaluating and intervening in the existing outcomes. Since ABA is practically and intervention-focused, it has been applied in mental health, education, and autism treatment. It has helped people to improve their social interactions, reduce challenging behavior, and learn new skills. This feature has allowed ABA to boost behavior in real-world settings. Question Two Historical and philosophical perspectives have influenced behavior analysis as a natural science. For example, John B. Watson has used classical behaviorism to emphasize studying observable behavior while rejecting conscious study and introspection (Morris et al., 1990). This claim helped create a scientific discipline focused on measurement and Experimentation. B.F. Skinner also expanded Watson's ideas in radical behaviorism to create private events where behavior was subjected to similar laws regarding observable behaviors, offering a comprehensive framework for individuals to understand behavior about internal events and observable actions. Philosophical perspectives, such as determinism, empiricism, parsimony, and pragmatism, have also played an important role in influencing behaviorism. Determinism has influenced behaviorism since it highlights that environmental factors affect behavior (Fisher et al., 2024). Most practitioners have looked for systematic and data-driven approaches to modifying environmental variables. Empiricism has also shown that individuals should emphasize observing and experimenting since it helps them understand behavior. On the other hand, parsimony has acted as a behaviorism foundation by explaining a behavior using the simplest terms possible while avoiding unnecessary assumptions. This perspective has been applied in ABA interventions since they use the simplest explanations and techniques to explain behavior issues to boost their clarity. On the other hand, pragmatism has helped behaviorism through the practical application of scientific findings to address real-world problems, therefore improving socially significant behaviors using practical and effective interventions, according to empirical evidence. The impact of ABA as a natural science is evident since it applies scientific methodology using varying scientific methods to attain effective interventions according to solid evidence. ABA has also focused on environmental variables, which manipulate environmental variables to attain behavior change and ensure a measurable approach regarding behavior modification. The ABA practitioners have also employed ethical guidelines and respect people's dignity. Question Three Over the years, important figures have contributed to the science of behavior analysis. The first person is John B. Watson, who advocated for the observable behavior study while rejecting conscious study and introspection. He also conducted the Little Albert experiment to condition human emotional responses by checking environmental stimuli's role in human behavior. Other people remember him for his writings and public speaking about behaviorism since they helped popularize it. B.F. Skinner also contributed to EAB. His research has shown that he established rigorous experimental methodologies for behavior understanding. He is also known for operant conditioning theory, which explains that consequences influence behaviors. Skinner also invented the Skinner box, which systematically studies how reinforcement and punishment affect behavior (Baer et al., 1987). Most people have also acknowledged him for introducing radical behaviorism, which expanded the scope of behaviorism. Ivar Lovaas has also contributed majorly to the field of behaviorism. For example, he developed the intensive behavioral intervention model for autistic children with cognitive and adaptive functioning conditions. Moreover, Lovaas conducted research showing how effective ABA was in treating autism, which made more people apply ABA as a standard autism treatment. He also popularized discrete trial training, which breaks down skills into small teachable components. Donald Baer also contributed to the field of behaviorism. For example, he started the development of ABA, where he was co-authoring seminal papers that defined the field and its methodology. Moreover, he researched early interventions for children with developmental problems and autism, where he supported ABA as an effective treatment. Moreover, he collaborated with Montrose Wolf and Todd Risley to identify the seven dimensions of ABA: technological, applied, behavioral, conceptual, analytic, applied, generality, and effective.
