Assessment Skills and Tasks in Clinical Psychology
Assessment of clients encompasses a broad range of skills and tasks. In preparation for this assignment you will investigate a range of skills and assessment tasks and explain which would be utilized in two distinct positions, of your choosing. To prepare for writing the paper, first carefully review the course materials on this topic. Then conduct your own research to deepen your understanding of how these skills and tasks are utilized in the field of clinical psychology.
For each of the following skills and tasks first explain what is involved in the skill. Next, provide at least two examples of how/where each skill would be used in clinical practice. For those that can be utilized in undergraduate level positions, one example should be in an undergraduate level position and one in a graduate level position. Be sure to support your explanation and your examples with scholarly references.
Active listening
Open/closed questions
Intake
Clinical interviewing

Foundational components of the diagnostic process
Finally, choose one of your examples and explain how concepts of multiculturalism and diversity would apply in that example.
Describe how a clinician could act as an agent of change for a client, by properly relating in a culturally appropriate manner.
Describe how this action could both bridge the cultural differences, and build effective relationships.
The paper should include support from the textbook and at least two additional scholarly sources. Be sure to support your explanation with scholarly references.

Assessment Skills and Tasks in Clinical Psychology
Clinical psychology plays a pivotal role in creating diagnoses of patients with various health complications in healthcare. Ideally, in clinical psychology, experts often identify symptoms in patients, develop an appropriate diagnosis, and propose the proper intervention treatments for patients (Pomerantz, 2019). This paper explores various assessment skills and tasks within clinical practice. Examples at multiple levels will also be provided to illustrate the effectiveness of clinical psychology in offering medical treatments and intervention strategies.
Active listening in clinical practice is always an essential element. The clinicians and the patients need a cordial relationship with each other so that a rapport can be created (Pomerantz, 2019). This helps the clinicians ensure they listen to what the client is saying and avoid misinterpretations.
Examples
* Undergraduate Level: Within an undergraduate mental health support group, active listening allows the learners to voice their opinions and feel a sense of belonging. Similarly, in a counseling session, graduate-level clinicians utilize active listening to understand a client’s trauma history making it possible to understand their emotional insights (Pomerantz, 2019). Therefore, they can comfortably propose therapeutic intervention procedures.
Open/Closed Questions
While answering questions, clients always respond depending on whether they are open or close-ended (Pomerantz, 2019). When the questions are open-ended, they have more freedom to express their emotions and feelings, which is essential for the clinician in diagnosing them.
Examples:
* Undergraduate Level: at an intake assessment process, an undergraduate clinician uses open-ended questions to assess an applicant’s emot...
