There is perhaps not a worse act of mass shooting than in schools, where innocent, unarmed children become statistics of fatalities. School shootings have been an issue in the U.S.; one of the famous shootings was the 1999 Columbine High School massacre. The perpetrators were Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, two high school students who opened fire on their classmates, killing 13 people and injuring over 24 others before taking their own lives (Vigderman & Turner, 2021). The students were heavily armed and seemed hellbent on their act. It was one of the worst school shootings in the history of the country at the time, and one that raised a lot of questions and also consciousness about the same.The incident can be analyzed using different theories, such as choice and trait theory. Choice theory dictates that an individual took time to make a certain choice before acting on it. When viewed under choice theory, the key factors are the shooters' decision-making process and perceived costs and benefits. The two gunmen seem to have taken enough time, around a year, to plan and execute their heinous attack.
