There are two major types of disasters which includes natural and manmade disasters. It is important to note that the two differ in various ways. Natural disasters occur as a result of alteration with the natural occurrence. The level at which an area is affected mainly depends on the exposure of the residents. However, manmade disasters are caused by the reckless activities of human beings. It is essential to consider that some of these disasters can turn out to be irreversible if accurate actions are not taken (Alexander, 2014). Therefore, it is important for the government and other disaster managing organizations as well as individuals to take right precautions to avoid the extensive damages that may be incurred incase natural disasters occur. When the required precautions are observed, it simplifies encumbers linked with such massive disasters. On the other hand, people should also be well informed about these disasters, their causes and also the precautions to take, this makes it easier for them to handle any crisis that may occur.
Natural Disasters That Impact the United States
Some of the natural disasters that affect the United States include drought, floods and heat waves, earthquakes, industrial and technological disasters. Heat waves are caused by exceedingly hot, a condition which comes along with intolerable moist (Alexander, 2014). The most frequent region that is affected by heat waves is the Eastern part of the United States which is normally stricken by extremely hot humidity. Despite the fact that few cases of strong heat waves have been reported in the United States, it is important to consider that the slightest occurrence of heat waves can easily result to death and enormous destruction.
Droughts are also a common disaster that has recently affected the United States where it adversely impacts its farming business. It still continues to be a common problem in the country and the organization in charge of drought keeps on cautioning and advocating for different measures to avoid intense effects. The other common manmade disaster that usually hits the United States is industrial and technological disasters. These occur as a result of industrial and technology failures (Benadusi, 2014). When air pollutant chemicals and water from industries are released to the atmosphere, they usually affect human beings adversely can result in massive deaths. Floods are the most commonly experienced disaster in the United States and other parts of the world today. They normally take place following heavy rains which fall within a short period of time which results to overflowing of streams and rivers.
Governments and Agencies Efforts in Improving Their Response in Responding and Recovery of Threats
The government of the United States is jointly working with various organizations to ensure that they enhance preparedness prior to disaster occurrences and also more also recuperate from emergencies. It is vital to note that disasters usually occur regularly and therefore it is crucial for the government and other agencies to develop structures and methods of reducing effects that come along with the occurrence of these disasters (Durning, 2014). Some of these strategies include response and recovery, preparation and planning and risk assessment.
Risk Assessment:
This approach helps in categorizing and evaluating risks where it involves reviewing the possibility of certain disasters or situations that cause severe destruction to the citizens of the United States.
