Writing Synthesis Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation WRITING SYNTHESIS From the content in class, I learnt a lot about the deeper understanding of the work of the CIO( chief information officer). The chief information officer began by leading the data processing department, and then moved to the information system department over time. The role of chief information officer The chief information officer performs a lot of roles in an organization. Their work is complex and thus cannot be shortened in one sentence. They perform several information technology jobs; thus they play a different role. The roles previously were viewed as a role of managing and processing of information. They were tasked by the retrieval of information and the managing of the data associated with it too (Gupta, 2011). But with the evolving trending the technology in the country, the role of chief information officer has also undergone various evolution. Social responsibilities Today, as the changes under the chief information officer have taken center place, most CIOs have distanced themselves from the operational responsibilities. Their roles are now being called chief technology officer because they now fully implement technology in the organization. The main function that the chief information officer plays for an organization is highlighted bellow. Chief information officer is tasked with the responsibility of ensuring all the social issues in organization are addressed amicably. He is thus a person responsible to ensure that all the communication within the department is done without any problem. He comes up with plans that ensure that the e-commerce and teleconferencing are set up.
