The Service Employment International Union (SEIU) has about two million members from the fields of healthcare, public, and property services. These are janitors, nurses, security officers, and government employees. Ranked as the second-largest union in America, the union is the most controversial of them all. It has continually taken political sides supporting democratic candidates. In the recent past, the union campaigned and funded the election of President Barack Obama, supporting his health care ideas. Since its inception on 23 April 1921, the union has diversified, merged, and renamed growing into one of the largest in America and Canada. Evaluating the structure of the union, we can report that a president and secretary-treasurer head it. The president elected for a period not exceeding three years heads the entire body of unions. The conflict between employers and employees and NLRB would lead to the SEIU. Filing a lawsuit to challenge a ruling made by the NLRB, justifying the actions of the employer. On review, however, the National Labor Relations Board held that the workers—not the employers—had violated federal labor law in line with Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act, 29 USC§157. The board ruled that the National Labor Relations Act did not support the actions of the employees. The courts found the boards ruing unlawful and legalized the picketing.
