Since a team is action oriented the team development techniques have to focus on ways to meet the goals of the organizational development program. Team building is useful in organizational development since there is emphasis on improving performance and motivating the employees and this is associated with organizational effectiveness (Cummings & Worley, 2013). The team developments techniques can enhance group functioning were the team members are more likely to work together. Additionally, these techniques are relevant to improve commitment to the goals and objectives where the team members’ work together to achieve high quality results consistent with the company’s developmental program
One of the issues that the team experience when they are first formed is getting things started and this is especially when there is no mutual trust. While team members need to work together this is not necessarily the case when there is no thorough discussion when the team members do not have enough information for them to work together. Ineffective communication is potentially problematic and this may increase conflict between the team members further making it difficult to focus on the tasks at hand (O'Hara, 2014).
When there is difficulty getting things done this affects operations as it is challenging to meet deadlines when the timelines are set. Even when there is shared understanding among team members there is no guarantee that they will begin on a good start. The team cannot generate ideas to meet the organization’s goals and objectives when there is no thorough discussion.
