Sustainability is one of the major emerging issues that businesses strive to address in today's corporate world. In this light, for the company to be tagged as sustainable, it must address the economic viability, social responsibility, and environmental factors. As part of most organizations' growth and strategy, the organizations implement corporate social responsibility and environmental protection policies (Fowler & Hope, 2007). Additionally, the organizations that implement corporate social and ecological sound policies, in most cases, create sustainable economic values. In as much, there is no clear definition of sustainability. It exhibits some ambiguity, the overall view, and understanding of a sustainable business environment. That stems from the idea that a sustainable business environment is a holistic system that includes the natural nature and the artificial that presents a need to be balanced and lasts an extended period (Høgevold et al., 2014). Therefore, sustainability is viewed in the corporate and business world's economic performance as entailing profit and performance.
Additionally, the environment would see to it that the planet from which the business operates is clean. Subsequently, the social performance includes how responsible the company is toward the people who live within or who the potential clients are for their product and services. This paper will examine, compare, and contrast Adidas, Puma, Transurban, and Sydney Airport's limited response to sustainability practices.
Adidas is one of the largest producers of sportswear, and it originated in Germany, Europe. In light of its sustainable practices, Adidas has since embraced the sustainable business practices that stem from governance, materials, and manufacturing (Zagel, & Tarhonskyi, 2020). All the aspects of management, materials, and manufacturing revolve around the sustainability practices that consider economic performance, corporate social responsibility, and the subsequent environmental factors. Assessing the ecological approach to sustainability, Adidas has since joined other corporations and businesses in making sure that they look after the environment for both people who live in the world today and for the future generation. In this light, it is essential to note that Adidas is a global business that operates in almost all parts of the world. For this reason, Adidas has continued to manage the environmental impacts at its sites (Gröschl et al., 2019). Consequently, management of the environmental impacts at the site is done along the value chain. Therefore, Adidas has since considered the environmental impacts from the points where their products are designed, manufactured, created, and subsequently transported and sold.
Adidas has also included environmental sustainability as part of its integral sustainability component, and it has since created a vision that goes beyond 2025((Zagel & Tarhonskyi, 2020). In this light, Adidas has approached environmental sustainability by developing and addressing environmental sustainability issues. For example, Adidas Company has addressed problems that stem from a carbon footprint and water efficiency (Zagel & Tarhonskyi, 2020). Additionally, Adidas has also developed the standard assurance procedures that see to it that they build quality products. Adidas has also taken a keen interest in environmental sustainability as part of its sustainable business practices by incorporating sustainable materials in its products' production. Additionally, sustainable companies also consider the stores from which they keep their products. All the driving energy towards a sustainable environment gears towards a circular business solution that is sustainable.
Like Adidas, Puma, a leading producer of sportswear, is also gearing towards a sustainable business environment as part of its sustainable business environment practice. In this light, both Adidas and Puma are mitigating climate change. The two companies are keen on using reliable energy that is critical for the planet to survive. Puma and Adidas are committed to reducing the total energy and carbon level emission into the atmosphere (Gröschl et al., 2019). The two companies are seeking an alternative to clean energy that includes looking for opportunities of harvesting energy. Since the two companies operate worldwide and have almost the same approach towards a sustainable environment that the business should use, the two companies have proactively addressed climate change impacts through different initiatives (Zagel, & Tarhonskyi,2020). The two companies have initiated operations in their supply chains and partner with other agencies for mitigating global climate change.
Adidas and Puma are signatories to the United Nations Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action. In this regard, the two companies have since committed to reducing their own and their suppliers' greenhouse emissions. To mitigate climate change, the two companies have established and implemented certified integrated management systems that cover safety health and measures to reduce the environmental footprint in their operations (Gröschl et al., 2019). The ethical standards that both companies have set for transparency and reporting have also helped them operate a sustainable environment in their sustainability practices. From reporting and transparency, the company has since carefully tracked the initiative's progress that they have set in place to protect the environment. The transparency and reporting codes allow the two companies to publish their reports of the environmental initiative's progress every year. The piece also bears the analysis, details, and progress towards the company's targets.
Adidas's sustainability business practice is not limited to the environmental factor, but it also focuses on corporate social responsibility. Through corporate social responsibility, both companies have contributed to different courses that improve the global situation, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and recycling polyester in their products (Zagel, & Tarhonskyi, 2020). Additionally, Adidas has partnered with organizations like Parley for the Ocean to clean the plastic wastes on beaches before these plastics reach the ocean. These waste products are converted into yarns, a key component in the production of apparel and footwear.
